Bales owned since 1900

Pearly Gates Farm is a 5th-generation, 125-year-old Bales-owned family century farm.

Our Values

Pearly Gates Farm values being able to share with you the benefits of beef, the experience of our farm, and sustaining Tennessee agriculture beef production. We want to help educate everyone on the health advantages of beef. We strive to produce top-quality beef so that you and your family know where your food is coming from.

Our History

Located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Jefferson County, Tennessee, this farm has helped raise our family through hard work, sustainability of the land, respect for our animals, and an appreciation for all we have.

Just like many of our community farms of a bygone era, our farm was diverse from the beginning. Corn and wheat were grown to feed the animals. Hogs and chickens were very much a part of the farm for many years. Beef cattle have always been part of the farm and are our top focus these days.  Over the past few years, through sustainability and conservation methods, we have helped improve our cattle farming operation and techniques.

Our Mission

Pearly Gates Farm’s mission is for you to know end to end where your beef is raised and handled. We want you to know and see from start to finish why our product tastes better while providing top-quality beef for you and your family.

Our Beef

We at Pearly Gates Farm provide all-natural Angus beef. That means no antibiotics. No added hormones and nothing is artificial. Our beef cattle are born and raised on our farm and have a lifetime of freedom to roam and graze contently on our open pasture, never in feedlots. They eat a vegetarian diet of quality forage and essential nutrients and minerals.

We are dedicated to our cattle and we respect our family’s land. We ensure that every animal in our care is “living its best life” every day and make every effort in the proper care, treatment, and humane processing of our animals. In addition, we implement conservation practices that help sustain or improve the environment for future generations.

Our beef is processed by a USDA facility here in East Tennessee. We pride ourselves on tradition and performance. We are interested in providing you, our patrons, with a trusted, local source of all-natural Angus beef products. To see a list of cuts available, click here. German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP’s)

Our love of this breed developed when Amanda in her teenage years rescued a GSP whose owner had passed. She was trained as a therapy dog for an elderly woman. She spent the last years of her life with our family. Fast forward, when we returned home to Jason’s family farm in 2019 - we welcomed our new GSPs to our family where they had ample space to run and thrive.

Background: In the 19th century in Germany, the breed was designed to be an all-purpose gun dog, capable of pointing, retrieving and tracking game on both land and water.

Size: Medium to Large; males typically weigh from 55-75lbs; while females weigh 50-65lbs.

Temperament and Behavior: Very high energy levels. They thrive on physical activity and mental stimulation. Without it, they can become bored and destructive. Highly intelligent and trainable and eager to please, but require positive reinforcement. Early socialization and obedience work are crucial.

GSP’s are ideal for families that enjoy active lifestyles and are not in an apartment. They thrive on exercise, companionship (known as Velcro dogs) and have a purpose.
